April is IBS Awareness Month
IBS? It’s not something your Great Auntie Margaret has made up so she can trump away after her Sunday lunch! In fact approximately 1 in 20 of people in the UK are affected, and April is IBS awareness month so I thought I would discuss how colon hydrotherapy can actually help those with an IBS diagnosis, or those with symptoms of IBS.
I’ve mentioned before how the gut is your second brain, and it talks very regularly to your actual brain – telling you when you are hungry, when you need the loo, butterflies if you are nervous……….. In IBS your gut is like a friend that doesn’t know when they are sharing too much info – and so this results in symptoms such as constipation, diarrhoea, a mixture of both and bloating among others. The typical ‘treatment’ either self prescribed or given by a Gp is either laxatives or immodium – or both!
I am not here to preach against medications and while they do have a place for some people, they are not the answer for everybody. Colon hydrotherapy not only helps to remove toxins from the gut – which can be the cause of some IBS symptoms such as fatigue, bloating and headaches; it also helps to retrain your gut and brain to work in synchronisation again.
Remember – it is not a quick fix, one treatment won’t solve your problems but it is a start. We also take a holistic approach so we discuss your diet, fluid intakes, your job, stress levels, activity levels and start to take small steps to make improvements to your symptoms. I would never send you away with a long list of things you must and must not do – it’s not my style! My style is more gentle and kind, we start with just one small achievable thing and build on that.
I am very happy to talk with you to discuss how we could personalise treatment to you and your needs, and of course I would love to see you in clinic one day soon.
Take care,
Emma
